A decisive win for Cameroon’s health diplomacy.
Cameroon has achieved a major milestone on the global health stage. At the opening of the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, our country was officially appointed to serve on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) General Committee, a top-tier decision-making body.
This international recognition is a pivotal moment in Cameroon’s presence in global health affairs, underlining our nation’s growing leadership in issues of global health.
The General Committee: Shaping WHO’s Future
The General Committee is instrumental in WHO’s governance. It is responsible for reviewing and approving the organization’s programme budget, setting broad policy orientations, appointing the WHO Director-General, and overseeing financial policies. Membership means Cameroon will be at the heart of decisions that shape the future of global public health.
A Result of Active Diplomacy
This appointment is no accident but the result of sustained, strategic leadership from the Head of State, H.E. Paul BIYA, who mandated a high-level delegation to represent Cameroon’s voice at this international forum. Under the leadership of Dr. MANAOUDA Malachie, Minister of Public Health, Cameroon’s delegation demonstrated exceptional energy in preparatory work and multilateral consultations.
Their professionalism, mastery of the issues, and alliance-building skills have made Cameroon a key voice in tackling global health challenges. This achievement not only brings pride to Cameroon but offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the future of global health.
